I could have gone to Perth last Saturday – in hindsight I really wish I had!

But, no. The spouse and I decided it was past time to be good householders and fix a troublesome screen door – which ended up requiring separate trips to three different stores before that important ventilation project could be called a success.

I knew I’d missed a much better time in Perth the second I saw this video from “ActiveSteve“, in which he reviews the 3rd annual Perth Kilt run.

[embedplusvideo height=”312″ width=”500″ standard=”http://www.youtube.com/v/y7L7A9EXGVM?fs=1″ vars=”ytid=y7L7A9EXGVM&width=450&height=281&start=&stop=&rs=w&hd=0&react=1&chapters=&notes=” id=”ep3756″ /]

Perth, Ontario already set a Guinness World Record for most runners dressed in kilts in an organized race way back in the 2010 inaugural event. (The event’s official name and website can be found here: Lanark Mutual Perth’s World Record Kilt Run )

You may recall from an earlier post that this year Perth, Scotland was gunning for that distinction. Well, that effort fell shy of the 2010 Ontario record (1,089) and won’t hold a candle to this past weekend’s tally. (Which might be as high as 1,764?)

I haven’t seen the final/verified number as of this writing. If you know what that is, please post it as a comment.

From various sources I gather there was a haggis throw, a kilt tug-of-war, lots of music, voyageur canoe rides and a new race division for those who don’t think running 8K is quite enough. In the warrior event, 50 participants had to carry a sword and shield the whole route, and complete an unusual obstacle course, after downing a shot of scotch! Oh yes, they also had to adhere to regimental dress (AKA: ‘go commando’). No undies.

ActiveSteve (real name: Stephen Meyer) went on to win the Warrior Class, while (I presume) also filming it en route.

Good job ActiveSteve and great going to everyone who put on a “you-had-to-be-there” event in Perth. (And go Canada, for beating Perth Scotland, eh?)

I’m still kicking myself for missing that much fun. But, I must say, a working screen door on the patio is pretty nice too.

Sometimes mistakes are made.
