{"id":6289,"date":"2012-07-17T06:28:33","date_gmt":"2012-07-17T10:28:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=6289"},"modified":"2012-07-19T14:35:35","modified_gmt":"2012-07-19T18:35:35","slug":"are-new-yorkers-gasp-optimists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2012\/07\/17\/are-new-yorkers-gasp-optimists\/","title":{"rendered":"Are New Yorkers (gasp!) optimists?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6290\" title=\"sienapoll_175\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2012\/07\/sienapoll_175.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"175\" height=\"175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2012\/07\/sienapoll_175.jpg 175w, https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2012\/07\/sienapoll_175-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 175px) 100vw, 175px\" \/>I was looking through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.siena.edu\/uploadedfiles\/home\/parents_and_community\/community_page\/sri\/sny_poll\/SNY0712%20Crosstabs.pdf\">Siena College Research Institute&#8217;s latest poll <\/a>this morning and one figure jumped out at me:\u00a0 44% of New Yorkers surveyed think the country is going in the right direction.<\/p>\n<p>And a whopping 53% think New York state is &#8220;on the right track.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Those may not sound like rose-colored-glasses levels of optimism, but compared with the rest of the country it&#8217;s practically giddy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.people-press.org\/files\/legacy-questionnaires\/7-12-12%20Political%20topline%20for%20release.pdf\">A Pew survey last week<\/a> found that only 31% of Americans are &#8220;satisfied&#8221; with the way things are going in the US.<\/p>\n<p>That matches almost exactly with the average of all polls tallied by Real Clear Politics.\u00a0 By their calculation, roughly 31% of us think things are going in the right direction.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/other\/direction_of_country-902.html\">61% think things are going in the wrong direction<\/a>.
