{"id":6360,"date":"2012-08-02T06:51:13","date_gmt":"2012-08-02T10:51:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=6360"},"modified":"2012-08-02T07:37:46","modified_gmt":"2012-08-02T11:37:46","slug":"100-day-sprint-democratic-poll-shows-owens-with-12-point-lead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2012\/08\/02\/100-day-sprint-democratic-poll-shows-owens-with-12-point-lead\/","title":{"rendered":"100 Day Sprint:  Democratic poll shows Owens with 12 point lead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-6362\" title=\"electioncloud_250\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2012\/08\/electioncloud_250-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2012\/08\/electioncloud_250-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2012\/08\/electioncloud_250.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has released findings from a new survey showing North Country Representative Bill Owens with a wide lead over Republican challenger Matt Doheny.<\/p>\n<p>Owens, a Democrat from Plattsburgh, gathered 50% of support, according to the poll.\u00a0 That&#8217;s an important benchmark for an incumbent seeking re-election.<\/p>\n<p>Doheny, the Republican from Watertown, was at 38%, according to the survey of 400 likely voters, which was conducted in the final three days of July.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Roughly three months before Election Day, Congressman Bill Owens is well positioned to win re-election in New York&#8217;s newly-configured 21st Congressional District,&#8221; according to a statement by Anzalone Liszt Research, which conducted the poll.<\/p>\n<p>They note that Owens currently leads by a margin that is wider than the percentage of undecided voters, which stands currently at 8%.\u00a0 (The margin of error for this poll is plus or minus 4.9%.)<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Green Party candidate Donald Hassig also drew some support, winning 4% of voter interest.\u00a0 If the race narrows in the weeks ahead, that number could be significant.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the survey, Doheny spokesman Jude Seymour sent this statement this morning to NCPR:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div>\u201cThe fact that Bill Owens can\u2019t break 50 percent as an incumbent in a poll commissioned by his own party is indicative of how much trouble he\u2019s in this fall.
