{"id":6368,"date":"2012-08-02T11:46:38","date_gmt":"2012-08-02T15:46:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=6368"},"modified":"2012-08-02T11:47:41","modified_gmt":"2012-08-02T15:47:41","slug":"100-day-sprint-doheny-camp-says-race-close-wont-disclose-polls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2012\/08\/02\/100-day-sprint-doheny-camp-says-race-close-wont-disclose-polls\/","title":{"rendered":"100 Day Sprint:  Doheny camp says race close, won&#8217;t disclose polls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Doheny campaign is reacting more fully this afternoon to a Democratic poll released late Wednesday showing that the Republican challenger is down 12 points with roughly three months left in the race.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Doheny, from Watertown, faces incumbent Congressman Bill Owens, a Democrat from Plattsburgh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been polling all along,&#8221; said Doheny spokesman Jude Seymour.\u00a0 &#8220;We\u2019re showing the polling to be a lot closer than what they\u2019re showing.\u00a0 I think you know that this is a very, very tight race.\u00a0 Our polling is probably within the margin of error.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked to disclose his data, however, Seymour declined, arguing that &#8220;the only poll that really matters is the one at the end.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Campaigns are often reluctant to release polls that show bad numbers for their candidates; and are generally most eager to release surveys when they show positive trends.<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether that&#8217;s a factor in the GOP&#8217;s decision not to release their polling numbers in the NY-21 campaign, Seymour answered this way:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBill Owens is the incumbent.\u00a0 He\u2019s had two years to get to know people and to help people.\u00a0 We have an uphill climb and that\u2019s why we see Matt out there every day.\u00a0 We\u2019re not going to take anything for granted.\u00a0 We don\u2019t think we\u2019re down 12 points.
