{"id":679,"date":"2009-04-14T08:29:00","date_gmt":"2009-04-14T12:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/04\/14\/tough-numbers-for-the-gop\/"},"modified":"2009-04-14T08:29:00","modified_gmt":"2009-04-14T12:29:00","slug":"tough-numbers-for-the-gop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/04\/14\/tough-numbers-for-the-gop\/","title":{"rendered":"Tough numbers for the GOP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/static\/PPM118_090414_cnn_gallup_poll.html\">CNN\/USA Today\/Gallup<\/a> poll offers very little in the way of a beacon for Republicans seeking a path out of the wilderness.<\/p>\n<p>The GOP has assailed President Barack Obama on security issues and battered Democratic leaders in Congress for passing the massive stimulus bill.<\/p>\n<p>Fox News and other conservative outlets have trumpeted anti-tax tea parties around the country.<\/p>\n<p>But the new poll shows public approval of Congress hitting a high mark (okay, only 35%) not seen since April of 2005.  <\/p>\n<p>Only a third of Americans want to see Congress back in control of the GOP.<\/p>\n<p>74% of Americans say Republicans don&#8217;t have a &#8220;clear plan&#8221; for solving the country&#8217;s economic problems and substantial majority &#8212; 61% &#8212; say GOP leaders should be doing more to cooperate with President Obama.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, 71% of Americans say they have confidence in Mr. Obama.<\/p>\n<p>Ouch.<\/p>\n<p>There are two take-aways here. <\/p>\n<p>First, Republicans are still at square one in figuring out now to talk about America&#8217;s new political landscape. <\/p>\n<p>Second, the American public is continents away from the anti-Democrat rhetoric in the right-wing media and blogosphere.<\/p>\n<p>Are you reading the numbers differently?
