{"id":7182,"date":"2013-01-17T09:27:19","date_gmt":"2013-01-17T14:27:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=7182"},"modified":"2013-01-17T09:27:33","modified_gmt":"2013-01-17T14:27:33","slug":"cuomos-gun-plan-polls-well-across-ny","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2013\/01\/17\/cuomos-gun-plan-polls-well-across-ny\/","title":{"rendered":"Cuomo&#8217;s gun plan polls strong across NY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2012\/02\/28\/morning-read-the-mystery-of-cuomos-presidential-hopes\/cuomoirene\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5595\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-5595\" title=\"cuomoirene\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2012\/02\/cuomoirene-450x394.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2012\/02\/cuomoirene-450x394.jpg 450w, https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2012\/02\/cuomoirene-150x131.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2012\/02\/cuomoirene-300x262.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2012\/02\/cuomoirene.jpg 1094w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a>The Siena Research Institute released its new poll today, showing Governor Andrew Cuomo still polling at 71% favorability, despite a series of controversial moves &#8212; including clashes with public employee unions, his apparent willingness to allow hydrofracking in central New York, and his push for toughest-in-the-nation gun control laws.<\/p>\n<p>Siena asked voters in particular about the gun control plan Cuomo pushed through the legislature.\u00a0 They found that 73% of New Yorkers favored the ban on assault rifles and large capacity magazines.<\/p>\n<p>The National Rifle Association, meanwhile, has approval ratings of just 36%, with 57% of New Yorkers unfavorable.\u00a0 Those are pretty grim numbers.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>While two of the Governor\u2019s gun proposals \u2013 banning assault weapons and increasing penalties for illegally<br \/>\npurchasing guns or using guns on school grounds \u2013 are strongly supported by voters, another measure \u2013 not<br \/>\nproposed by the Governor nor in the new law \u2013 to have armed security guards in all schools closely divides voters<br \/>\nwith 52 percent opposed and 46 percent in support.
