The facility has had to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northcountrypublicradio.org\/news\/story\/12652\/corning-workers-reflect-on-jobs-cuts\">cut<\/a> its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northcountrypublicradio.org\/news\/story\/13215\/the-year-of-hard-choices-checking-in-with-the-carpenters\">workforce<\/a> more or less in half and endure several shutdowns.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s some good news today. The plant successfully lured a new line of Polarcor glass from a soon-to-be-shuttered plant in Virginia, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.watertowndailytimes.com\/article\/20090505\/NEWS05\/305059967\">according to the Watertown Daily Times<\/a>. Good news for Cantonians; bad news for Virginians.<\/p>\n<p>The new line will only create 8 new jobs or so. But as St. Lawrence County economic development chief Ray Fountain told the paper, just keeping jobs in today&#8217;s economy is a major achievement.
