{"id":745,"date":"2009-05-11T22:26:00","date_gmt":"2009-05-12T02:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/05\/11\/murphy-win-continues-to-resonate-nationally\/"},"modified":"2009-05-11T22:26:00","modified_gmt":"2009-05-12T02:26:00","slug":"murphy-win-continues-to-resonate-nationally","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/05\/11\/murphy-win-continues-to-resonate-nationally\/","title":{"rendered":"Murphy win continues to resonate nationally"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Time magazine leads its latest issue <a href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/politics\/article\/0,8599,1896588,00.html\">with an article<\/a> portraying Republicans as an &#8220;endangered species.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Right there in the second sentence, writer Michael Grunwald zeroes in on the 20th NY congressional district special election:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[Republicans] lost Congress, then the White House; more recently, they lost a slam-dunk House election in a conservative New York district, then <a href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/politics\/article\/0,8599,1894479,00.html\" target=\"_blank\">Senator Arlen Specter<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Grunwald then hones in on the nut of the Republican conundrum:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>And the electorate is getting less white, less rural, less Christian \u2014 in short, less demographically Republican.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I know this topic has been kicked to death, but Grunwald really lays out the GOP&#8217;s conundrum in stark detail.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m notoriously bad at predictions, so I&#8217;ll pose a question:<\/p>\n<p>Is this really a cyclical downturn for Republicans &#8212; part of the natural cycle of American politics?<\/p>\n<p>Or has the conservative movement actually gone off a cliff? <\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll know more in November 2010, but in the meantime what do you think?<\/p>\n<p>Is the GOP hibernating?
