{"id":746,"date":"2009-05-12T06:50:00","date_gmt":"2009-05-12T10:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/05\/12\/obamas-catholic-problem\/"},"modified":"2009-05-12T06:50:00","modified_gmt":"2009-05-12T10:50:00","slug":"obamas-catholic-problem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/05\/12\/obamas-catholic-problem\/","title":{"rendered":"Obama&#8217;s Catholic problem?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There have been protests and debates over Notre Dame&#8217;s decision to invite President Barack Obama to speak this Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>New York&#8217;s Archbishop-designate, Timothy Dolan, has called the Catholic university&#8217;s inclusion of the President in their graduation ceremonies &#8220;a mistake. &#8220;<\/p>\n<p>Here in the Diocese of Ogdensburg, Bishop Robert Cunningham has joined the criticism of the President&#8217;s agenda &#8211; particularly Obama&#8217;s pro-choice stance.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s Archbishop Dolan&#8217;s statement, reported by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/new.php?n=15678\">Catholic News Agency<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Periodically, we Catholics have to stand up and say, `Enough&#8217;,&#8221; Archbishop Dolan told the Associated Press. &#8220;The church as a whole still calls out to what is noble in us.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Appealing to fallen-away Catholics, he said he plans to tell them \u201cWe need you. We love you. The Church is your family\u2026 Please come back. We miss you. We&#8217;re sorry if we hurt you. We&#8217;ll listen to you. It&#8217;s not the same without you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What do you think?  Is the Church right to engage with Obama?
