A couple stories on the new NY SAFE act from NCPR’s newsroom this morning: Brian Mann reports on court challenges to the law<\/a>, and Chris Morris reports on North Country counties passing resolutions opposing the law<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, after her early morning scan of the papers, Julie Grant tells us that gun advocates in the our region and elsewhere in upstate New York are targeting lawmakers who support even part of New York’s new gun control law. And at least one Assembly member is fighting back.<\/p>\n

In one instance this week, the Malone Telegram reports that a crowd of more than 40 gun enthusiasts voiced displeasure with St. Lawrence County legislators<\/a>. The lawmakers recently approved a resolution opposing some, but not all, of the New York SAFE Act.<\/p>\n

Gun supporters said they would vote legislators out of office who don’t support repeal of the entire<\/em> law.<\/p>\n

And a state Assembly member from the Syracuse area is apologizing for directing the “F-bomb”, as they say, at several constituents at a meeting in his office about the gun law.<\/p>\n

Assemblyman Al Stirpe tells the Syracuse Post Standard<\/a> that he was being peppered at the time by several men who weren’t giving him a chance to answer their questions and were “shouting him down.”<\/p>\n

Stirpe admitted to using an expletive at least twice, telling the men that if they cared as much about education and the crumbling roads and bridges in New York, as they do about guns, they’d be living in a better state.<\/p>\n

Stirpe says some people left after his outburst. But several individuals apologized to him for the way he was treated. Stirpe says he also apologized for his behavior, and posted an apology on his Facebook page.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
