{"id":756,"date":"2009-05-14T15:38:00","date_gmt":"2009-05-14T19:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/05\/14\/that-jew-schumer\/"},"modified":"2009-05-14T15:38:00","modified_gmt":"2009-05-14T19:38:00","slug":"that-jew-schumer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/05\/14\/that-jew-schumer\/","title":{"rendered":"&quot;That Jew&quot; Schumer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Republican running for the U.S. Senate in Arkansas is apologizing for referring to NY Senator Chuck Schumer as &#8220;that Jew&#8221; during a GOP event. <\/p>\n<p>State Senator Kim Hendren has since apologized and made <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talkingpointsmemo.com\/news\/2009\/05\/gop_sen_hopeful_heard_calling_schumer_that_jew.php\">this statement<\/a> to the Associated Press:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I ought not to have referred to it at all,&#8221; Hendren told the AP. &#8220;When I referred to him as Jewish, it wasn&#8217;t because I don&#8217;t like Jewish people.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In an interview with an <a href=\"http:\/\/tolbertreport.com\/2009\/05\/14\/sen-kim-hendren-without-a-teleprompter\/\">Arkansas blogger<\/a>, Hendren added this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;At the meeting I was attempting to explain that unlike Sen. Schumer, I believe in traditional values, like we used to see on &#8216;The Andy Griffith Show,'&#8221; he explained. &#8220;I made the mistake of referring to Sen.
