{"id":773,"date":"2009-05-21T16:20:00","date_gmt":"2009-05-21T20:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/05\/21\/landmark-legal-case-could-open-adk-trails-roads-to-motorized-recreation\/"},"modified":"2009-05-21T16:20:00","modified_gmt":"2009-05-21T20:20:00","slug":"landmark-legal-case-could-open-adk-trails-roads-to-motorized-recreation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/05\/21\/landmark-legal-case-could-open-adk-trails-roads-to-motorized-recreation\/","title":{"rendered":"Landmark legal case could open Adk trails &amp; roads to motorized recreation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jim McCulley has been battling the DEC for years over their attempt to ticket him for driving a truck on part of the Jackrabbit Ski Trail between Lake Placid and Keene.<\/p>\n<p>The DEC threw in the towel today, dismissing the ticket against McCulley and acknowledging that the road was never properly condemned.<\/p>\n<p>McCulley has been a proponent of increased motorized recreation in the forest preserve and this case may give his side a big stick to wield in future battles.<\/p>\n<p>The DEC appears to be conceding that hundreds of miles of town-owned roads through the Adirondacks could be legally open.<\/p>\n<p>Translation: Wilderness and primitive areas may now have motorized routes punched deep into their remotest valleys.<\/p>\n<p>The ramifications of this are still being sorted out.
