{"id":791,"date":"2009-05-29T15:48:00","date_gmt":"2009-05-29T19:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/05\/29\/its-official-treadwells-leaving-north-country\/"},"modified":"2009-05-29T15:48:00","modified_gmt":"2009-05-29T19:48:00","slug":"its-official-treadwells-leaving-north-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/05\/29\/its-official-treadwells-leaving-north-country\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s official: Treadwells leaving North Country"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There have been rumors for weeks that Sandy Treadwell from Essex County &#8212; once the chair of New York&#8217;s Republican Party, a major ally of Governor George Pataki, and a mainstay of North Country politics &#8212; is leaving NY state.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/blogs\/dailypolitics\/\">Daily Politics website<\/a> confirms it today:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Treadwell, who mounted an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailygazette.com\/news\/2008\/nov\/05\/1105_gillibrand\/\">unsuccessful campaign<\/a> to oust then-Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand last fall, has maintained a home in California because his children and grandchildren are there, according to longtime Treadwell associate Bill McGahay. <br \/>McGahay said Treadwell, who is independently wealthy (he spent a total of $11.5 million on his unsuccessful congressional bid, $6 million of which was his own money) , is&#8230;leaving New York&#8230;because he wants to spend more time with his family.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Treadwell and his wife Libby have been major players in the political and cultural life in the Champlain Valley and Lake Placid. <br \/>They won&#8217;t be pulling up stakes entirely.
