{"id":819,"date":"2009-06-12T09:11:00","date_gmt":"2009-06-12T13:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/06\/12\/beware-a-democratic-base-scorned\/"},"modified":"2009-06-12T09:11:00","modified_gmt":"2009-06-12T13:11:00","slug":"beware-a-democratic-base-scorned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/06\/12\/beware-a-democratic-base-scorned\/","title":{"rendered":"Beware a Democratic base scorned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hiram Monserrate and Pedro Espada tried to pull a Joe Lieberman, throwing Democratic leaders in Albany into a tailspin.<\/p>\n<p>But they apparently didn&#8217;t reckon on the fact that state Senators are far, far closer to their communities than US Senators.<\/p>\n<p>Monserrate in particular is at the center of a firestorm in his Jackson Heights community, which has exactly zero interest in their lawmaker partnering with the GOP. <\/p>\n<p>Already under indictment for allegedly abusing his girlfriend, Monserrate is now a pariah among Albany lawmakers and increasingly so in his own neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday he refused to confirm that he supported Republican Dean Skelos as majority leader.
