{"id":821,"date":"2009-06-13T15:15:00","date_gmt":"2009-06-13T19:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/06\/13\/another-north-country-school-threatened-with-closure\/"},"modified":"2009-06-13T15:15:00","modified_gmt":"2009-06-13T19:15:00","slug":"another-north-country-school-threatened-with-closure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/06\/13\/another-north-country-school-threatened-with-closure\/","title":{"rendered":"Another North Country school threatened with closure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve been discussing a new report from the AATV that highlights the region&#8217;s aging population and big demographic problems facing the region&#8217;s schools.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the <a href=\"http:\/\/adirondackdailyenterprise.com\/page\/content.detail\/id\/507035.html?nav=5008\">Adirondack Daily Enterprise<\/a> reports that yet another of the region&#8217;s schools &#8212; St. Agnes Parochial in Lake Placid &#8211; will close this summer if enrollment doesn&#8217;t incresase.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Right now enrollment is sitting at about 37, and that&#8217;s not enough for the parish to be able to carry the school,&#8221; [Principal Anne ]Bayruns said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She told the Enterprise that the school needs a minimum of 50 to survive;  a parents&#8217; meeting is planned for Monday, June 15th, in the St. Agnes cafeteria. <\/p>\n<p>This year was the school&#8217;s fiftieth anniversary.
