{"id":988,"date":"2009-08-18T13:41:00","date_gmt":"2009-08-18T17:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/08\/18\/north-country-takes-sides-in-fight-for-gop-control\/"},"modified":"2009-08-18T13:41:00","modified_gmt":"2009-08-18T17:41:00","slug":"north-country-takes-sides-in-fight-for-gop-control","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/08\/18\/north-country-takes-sides-in-fight-for-gop-control\/","title":{"rendered":"North Country takes sides in fight for GOP control"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><\/span>The NY Daily News <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/blogs\/dailypolitics\/\">is reporting today<\/a> on a &#8220;fierce behind-the-scenes fight&#8221; for control of the state Republican Party.<\/p>\n<p>A chief contender is the former son-in-law of President Richard Nixon, Ed Cox, a Manhattan lawyer and SUNY trustee, who served as John McCain&#8217;s campaign chair in New York state.<\/p>\n<p>According to Cox, most of the county chairs in the North Country are on his side.<\/p>\n<p>Chairs from Clinton, Essex, Frankly, Jefferson, Hamilton, and St. Lawrence counties are all urging him to take the post.<\/p>\n<p>A copy of their letter of support can be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scribd.com\/doc\/18685882\/Letter-to-Ed-Cox-in-Support-of-Bid-to-Become-NY-State-GOP-Chairman\">seen here<\/a>.  It describes the GOP as being &#8220;in crisis&#8221; and says that Cox is the best man to right the ship.<\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix\">\n<div>\n<p>Cox hopes to edge out Niagara County&#8217;s Henry Wojtaszek. <\/p>\n<p>According to the Daily News, Wojtaszek has former Governor George Pataki and former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani in his corner.<\/p>\n<p> He also has a strong power base in western New York.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesunion.com\/AspStories\/story.asp?storyID=832201\">Albany Times-Union<\/a>, this leadership battle could be decisive.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The 2010 elections will be critical for the state GOP.
