At the Public Radio News Gathering

I’m at the 2010 Public Radio News Directors, Inc conference in Louisville KY, where NPR Senior VP for News Ellen Weiss (and I’m paraphrasing) is giving a pep talk on public radio’s responsibilty and capacity to lead the field in the new digital age of media:

We have to be the same trusted source of information that we have been, because without responsible journalism, “a free, fearless media; without freedom of inquiry, freedom of speech becomes public relations”

Note: Long-running debates about how public media should carry out its mission in the online world are revived by a new collaboration effort spearheaded by NPR, to bring all the players together on a new “Public Media Platform.” NCPR has an advisory role in its creation.
