Another old friend

The great blues pianist Pinetop Perkins died yesterday. Here’s the obituary that appeared on the Rolling Stone website. Listen today to the Blue Note for a tribute set. I had the honor of meeting Pinetop in 1981 when the Muddy Waters Blues Band appeared in Canton and, thrill of a lifetime for a blues lovin’ gal like me, I introduced the band.

Here’s a video made two years ago, on the occasion of Pinetop’s 95th birthday. By the way, he was playing piano gigs right up until his death.

Wherever he is…Pinetop is pounding the 88s. RIP.
