Fair skies for ferry opening

That’s deckhand Ralph Guiduli greeting regular customer Marcy Weathers (plus Argus, Ajax and Barton) after a long winter as she waits for the ferry back to Essex, NY.

It was opening day for the Charlotte-Essex, and a welcome day it was for travelers between New York and Vermont. Today’s related story here. Weathers lives in Essex, said she couldn’t resist taking the dogs for a walk on the Vermont side. Just for the heck of it.

There’s still lots of ice to be seen. Migratory waterfowl, cormorants, and Weathers said, an eagle are all fishing the cold waters.

On our way TO Burlington, we drove Rt. 2 down the Champlain Islands. The heron rookery on the Vermont end of the route is filling up. Lots of herons standing tall on the nests. Several osprey also claiming turf there.
