Radio is the most visual of media…

That’s something you hear a lot in radio. Usually it’s in the mode of getting us producers to describe the appearance of things in our scripts so listeners can get a good sense of scene in what’s (obviously) a pretty aural medium. But things are changing, and for those of us who are visually as well as aurally inclined, there are more and more chances to put our non-radio loves out into the North Country Public Radio world.

In my case, that means that you all get to share in one of my great non-radio joys: Driving around in the country, looking for interesting stuff. I’ve only recently gotten into really using the lovely camera my delightful husband and mother got me for my birthday last year, but it’s already yielded some nice photos. One thing I like about these is that although they’re all quite different, they’re all real North Country scenes, taken within a short drive of one another.

So here are a few–enjoy!

Black and white photo of abandoned house, Rt. 68 between Canton and Ogdensburg, NY

This abandoned house is across the street from an abandoned gas station on Rt. 68 between Canton and Ogdensburg. I’m not sure if the two are connected.

Laundry hanging on a clothesline

Laundry hanging on a clothesline
Laundry, Renssalaer Falls. FYI, this is a crop of a much larger photo. I didn’t get that close to these people’s laundry, that would have been rude.

Child on motorbike

I don’t know what it is about this kid that got me–maybe the fact that he looks so tough, or that he’s riding a tiny purple motorbike…

Very nice. Keep sharing with those of us too far away to take these drives in person.
