Say C H E E S E !

Yes, that’s me, trying on the Big Cheese hat at the Lowville Cream Cheese Festival. This hat will be offered in our Fall Fund Drive coming up in October, donated by The Lowville Good Cheese Store.

Chalk up another great year at the Lowville Cream Cheese Festival.  This year was number 8, and according to this article in the Watertown Times, the event drew an estimated 15,000 cream cheese fans.

There was all-day entertainment:

The Nelson Brothers Band, from Rome, NY, play classic country. When he’s not singing lead in the band, Brian Nelson operates a dairy farm with 30 milkers.

Of course, there was ALL kinds of food.  On a stick.  In a bag.  Deep-fried.  Cheese smothered.  Barbequed, baked, fried, frozen and popped:

Kettle Corn, served from a tub!

Cream cheese isn’t just for eating anymore.  The festival features cream cheese tossing, cream cheese bingo, and cream cheese painting:

A masterpiece in the making. Cream cheese ephemera.

There were over 100 vendors at the festival.  All kinds of stuff:

I hope they’re selling spices!

The activity that really sets the Lowville Cream Cheese Festival apart is its focus on family activies – including wacky pet contests.  Countryside Veterinary Clinic provides prizes for best pet tricks, costumes, look-alikes, and other wacky categories.

Meet the runner-up in the adult costume category, receiving her prize from Jim Randall of Countryside Vet Clinic.

I have attended all 8 Cream Cheese Festivals in Lowville, and it gets better – and bigger – every year.  If you missed it this year, I hope to see you there next year.  You can’t miss me — just look for the cheese head.

Tell us again how big the cheese cake is…

3,500 servings — and very generous portions! Dimensionally it’s HUGE. The Watertown Times published photos before it was cut up, but, alas, I was distracted by all the live entertainment and didn’t get to see it this year. It’s ‘under wraps’ until the official unveiling (that’s what the opening ceremonies are all about!), then it’s….. history.

Darn it, I had to miss this again!

    Thanks for describing it, Barb.

Love the photos! You look good in cheese.
