Heading south for the winter?

A stretch of beach near Tortuguero, Costa Rica.

When my parents first began spending winters in Florida, my mom admitted that the topic of conversation at a dinner with friends was, “Do you think our kids wonder what we do here all day?”

So, I’m asking: If you’re a retired North Country resident who travels south for the winter, or to another part of the world, have you found a second career? What keeps you busy? Do you volunteer for a local arts or environmental organization? Whatever the attraction — the crack of a bat at Spring Training, cleaning up a stretch of beach, or the chance to work alongside Mickey Mouse — I want to hear from you.

I know there are lots of semi-retired and retired folks from the region who enjoy staying active during snowbird season. Tell me your story: [email protected]
