Ellen’s Birthday

Ellen’s birthday was this weekend.  She was out of town so we decided to wreck “decorate” her office.

It all started with a few balloons…then things got out of hand.  Maybe it was the helium, I can’t say for sure, but by the time it was over there were pictures of pugs dressed as movie characters, notes, signs, beads, confetti, and yes…a hot pink tiara for the birthday girl.  Why the tiara? Why NOT?! Wasn’t it Emerson who said “Nothing great was ever achieved without a tiara” — or something like that?  My point is this, tiaras are fun.  Here are a few photos from the day.

Early this morning, adding the finishing touches.

Almost Done

Almost Done. Shouldn’t we just add one more balloon?

We couldn’t really cram much more in there so Radio Bob got creative.  Here he is making 60’s style door “fringe” out of old reel-to-reel tape.  Jon is helping measure the individual strands.

All done—and just in the nick of time! Bob hangs the “fringe” on the door just as Tasha lets us know that Ellen has just pulled into the parking lot.

Door fringe done! Just in time.

Door fringe done! Just in time.

The birthday girl arrives…

“What have you people been up to?”

“…and how the heck do I get to my desk?”

The look (and hand on the hip) says it all…I can’t trust you people to be on your own for 5 dang minutes.

Birthday Queen!

Birthday Queen!

So we distracted her with CAKE! UMMMM CAKE!!!

Cake!

Cake!

And then she was back to work.

Thanks to the amazing staff at NCPR (remember, they were also actually doing RADIO and DIGITAL work in the midst of the decorating frenzy), and thanks to all of the station friends to sent kind birthday messages to me. Much as I hate birthday celebrations, it was hard not to laugh a lot yesterday. Thanks.
