Blues, black history and Morgan Freeman

Today is February 1, the beginning of Black History Month. I’ve said it before, and I’m gonna say it again…as the host of The Blue Note, I know every month is black history month…and white history month…and red, yellow and brown history month. I think “history” months are a peculiar notion. Morgan Freeman agrees with me…which is only one of the reasons I’ve been a fan of his for decades.

Tell me something about the history of human rights in this region–regardless of skin color. In the Adirondacks? the St. Lawrence Valley? Burlington? southeastern Ontario? Let’s celebrate February with tales of people doing the right thing.

I, too, am a big fan of Morgan Freeman. No one could say it better.

  2. Pete Klein says:

I agree with Helene and have taken to check the “other” box when asked/required to state a race.
If I’m in a bad mood, I’ll say I’m German. The whole race thing is stupid and becoming more and more stupid as this country sees more and more intermarriage between races and nationalities.
By the way, and I just can’t resist pointing this out, some of the Founding Fathers were in favor of having German as the national language because they hated the English so much.
