Murdoch: Governor "blind…doesn’t really know what’s going on"

On a Wall Street Journal video out today (I found it here), newspaper and television magnate Rupert Murdoch blasts New York’s legislature as “totally incompetent.”

But the sketchy bit was his description of Governor David Paterson:

“The Governor is a very nice, honest man, blind and can’t read braille and doesn’t really know what’s going on. It’s not a joke, it’s a tragedy what’s going on at the moment.”

That description isn’t only crass; it’s crass and inaccurate. Paterson may be politically ineffective, but no one can fault him for not identifying and responding early to the economic crisis.

Indeed, the Governor seemed to know what was going on with the economy long before many of Murdoch’s newspapers.
