Hacketts in Tupper Lake will close at the end of the year. Seven employees will lose their jobs. COO Herbert Becker told the Watertown Daily Times, “the economic depression of New York continues to impact us.” The store had been open since 2004.
2009 was a brutal year for Hacketts and its parent company, Seawa Valley Capital Corp. Stores in Hamilton, Pulaski, Massena, Gouverneur, Potsdam, Canton, and now Tupper Lake were closed. Massena reopened; Canton reopened in a much smaller form.
Last month, Hacketts sought bankruptcy protection.
