Road to the Stanley Cup goes through SLU

A couple cool St. Lawrence University connections in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.  Montreal Canadiens’ head coach, Jacques Martin, played for the Skating Saints when he went to SLU in the early 1970s.

The Canadiens – who scored the most stunning upset of the first round by squeaking past the best team in the NHL, the Washington Capitals – now play Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in round two.

The Penguins’ general manager?  Ray Shero, another Skating Saints alum from the 1980s.

With my Buffalo Sabres suffering their own upset at the hands of the Boston Bruins, I gotta root for the Habs now.

Who do you like to win the Cup?

If the Bruins can find some consistent scoring, they can go all the way!

    Stanley?….Sidney

Typo corrected. Thanks, Bnas. But c’mon…if Crosby has a few big moments, maybe the NHL will want him to change his name to Stanley. Either that, or rename the Cup “Sidney”.

I’m hoping the Habs will make the hockey world forget all about Sidney for a while.
