President Barack Obama had some stern words for the oil industry yesterday. He slammed British Petroleum, Halliburton and Trans Ocean for the “ridiculous spectacle” of trying to blame one-another for the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.
But really there’s an explanation for what happened. The front fell off. Okay, granted, this is from an Australian comedy duo. But it really gets to the heart of the industry’s argument.

I can’t help but wonder if this Gulf oil drilling disaster could have been prevented if more ATTENTION was paid to what Progressives were saying about Big Oil. Instead the right-wing morons choose to listen to that succubus Sarah Palin. I remember all you Republican Party cult members and Glenn Beck groupies getting worked up into a frenzy chanting “drill baby drill”
I swear to the Almighty I’m starting to believe you Conservative wackos would rather do what’s best for Limbaugh, Palin and FOX Spin… ahhhh I mean News, than what’s good for the USA. Traitors!
Hmmmmm, so by your thinking Obama should be giving back all that money BP donated to him since it’s dirty oil money? And all those other “pure” progressives should give back any of their dirty money too? Right.
FWIW- the idea was we utilize our resources to tide us over until we could develop alternatives. I don’t know if you noticed but fuel and food prices are rising rapidly and our economy is in the crapper. If fuel goes back up to $5.00 or more the economy will falter and stagnate, factories will close, farms will go out, prices will rise even more, the dollar will spiral downward……not good. I never heard anyone on the right or left suggest we throw caution to the wind and just let the cards fall where they may on offshore drilling or anywhere else in the energy sector. That’s just not true.
The problem, IMO, is that 90% of our population couldn’t care less what happens as long as they get their bread and circus. Alternatives to oil exist, can be developed and some are even practical. But as long as gas and diesel stay “reasonable” we won’t put the money into it. Now, if you can come up with a way to put the money needed into the development of the alternatives without raising taxes or crippling our economy- go for it! I’ll back you 100%. The practical problem is how do you switch an entire planet to a new paradigm without causing serious upheaval? Currently without oil and oil based products we’d starve and freeze across the world in a matter of a couple years. Look at North Korea for an idea of what life without oil is like.
Give us a good, workable way to get to an alternative and you can lead the charge.
