Well, great, now everybody’s gonna know
Snarky headline aside, this is a good thing:
Yahoo! Travel ran a piece this morning on “America’s Island Paradises“–and I like the intro:
White sand beaches, pristine waters and scenic getaways aren’t as far away as you may think. Travelers who’d prefer to skip a long flight to Hawaii or the Caribbean can find many island paradises right in the continental United States — and they’re only a drive, boat ride or short flight away.
Your usual suspects are in here, including Catalina Island (southern California) and the San Juans (northwest of Seattle, WA) and the paddler’s paradise of the Boundary Waters in Minnesota.
And then there’s one of our paradisaical patches, the Thousand Islands:
As its name suggests, the Thousand Island Region comprises more than 1,000 islands along the U.S.-Canada border, surrounded by the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario and Adirondacks Mountains. Jess Moss, editor of Fodor’s, recommends staying in the historic Alexandria Bay in upstate New York. Visitors can explore upstate New York’s wilderness in several of the region’s state parks and also enjoy outdoor activities such as fishing, boating and hiking.
The typos are theirs, and you can question any of the content, but it’s nice to see the North Country on the national radar.
Yes, indeed….Nice to see some acknowledgment of our little beautiful part of the world.
