Morning Read: Boathouse fight goes local in the Adirondacks

We’ve been reporting on the APA’s efforts — eventually successful — to find clearer language defining what does and does not constitute a boathouse.  That effort has now sparked a local battle on the shore of Lake Placid.

This from Chris Knight’s article in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise:

The owners of shoreline lot on Lake Placid have defied a stop-work order from the town of North Elba and are continuing construction of a new boathouse without the required permits from the town.

Their lawyer claims the town has no jurisdiction over the project, and admits his clients are rushing to get the structure built before new state Adirondack Park Agency restrictions on the size and height of boathouses take effect next week.

The controversy surrounds a boathouse being built by the Grimditch family on the east side of Lake Placid.
