The Albany Times-Union is reporting that the state of New York has put a price tag on Camp Gabriels, the former prison in the Adirondacks.
New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Acting Commissioner, Carla Chiaro, today announced that it will conduct a sealed bid auction for the Former Camp Gabriels Correctional Facility located at 737 State Route 86 in the Town of Brighton (Franklin County) on Wednesday, November 17, 2010.
A minimum bid of $950,00.00 is required. Bids are due to OGS no later than 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16. A ten percent deposit in the form of a certified check or bank draft in the amount of $95,000 must accompany all sealed bids. Checks should be made payable to the Commissioner of General Services.

Oh! He would probably like for some of the inmates to remain so they could cut grass and shovel snow for free.
Maybe they can start auctioning off some more State land soon. That’s one way to pay down the State deficit and put the property back on the tax rolls at the same time.
950K is pretty cheap, no?
