The Glens Falls Post-Star is reporting that a bridge across the Champlain Canal will be closed “indefinitely.”
Supervisor Gayle Hall announced that the Washington County Superintendent of Public Works is closing the Deweys Bridge indefinitely starting Dec. 1.
The bridge crosses the Champlain Canal. Hall said it has not passed mandatory inspections and, though the county has looked into fixing the historic span, the cost is astronomical, she said.
“The bridge will remain closed until something is decided or we get some more monies to work on it,” Hall said.

Is this the one that crosses in Whitehall? If so, I think I need to start planning a detour route going home for Thanksgiving…
Let’s hope the town does a better job on the bridge than they did on the Hadlock Pond dam.
Why should the town fix the bridge? Sell the bridge to a private investor and let them fix it. Who needs government.
