Morning Read 2: “Strange bedfellows” lobby for environmental funding

The Albany Times-Union is reporting that loggers, farmers and environmental activists teamed up in Albany this week to ask for full funding for the state’s Environmental Protection Fund.

That’s the cash pool that’s typically used to make big land and easement purchases in the Adirondacks.

Loggers are not always on the same side of a given issue as environmentalists. Nor are farmers. But those and other groups joined together Tuesday with a common goal in mind: convincing Gov. Andrew Cuomo to invest in environmental pursuits in his upcoming budget.

According to the article, budget cuts have crimped the amount of logging private companies can do on state land outside the blue line.

It has also limited the payments to farmers for keeping their land in agriculture.  Read the full article here.

    Why are these interested parties called “Strange bedfellows”?
    It seems to me they know which side of their bread is buttered.
    Why is logic so shocking?
