Lawmakers push back on Tug Hill Commission
All five lawmakers (all Republicans) representing the Tug Hill Plateau sent a letter Monday to Governor Cuomo, pushing back against his proposal to dissolve the Tug Hill Commission by eliminating its $1.2 million budget.
Specifically, they asked why the issue isn’t being handled as a part of the broader task force for reorganizing and consolidating government, called the “SAGE Comission”:
We do not understand why the Tug Hill Commission has been singled out as one of the only commissions in the entire state to be eliminated through the budget process, when the fate of other, similar commissions, authorities and agencies will be decided by the SAGE Commission.
We realize that at a time when the state is facing a massive deficit, you are looking to reduce duplication and foster greater efficiencies. That is a goal we share and applaud. However, we believe a fair analysis of the role of the Tug Hill Commission would show it is actually helping you carry out the goals you outlined in your State of the State message and in your budget plan.
