Morning Read: Barack, William and Kate
I know, I know: President Barack Obama’s visit to Fort Drum tomorrow is a big deal and its real news. His conversation with soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division is part of a reset of national policy in Afghanistan.
This from the Associated Press:
The announcement comes as Obama nears a decision on beginning the withdrawal of U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Obama could announce as early as this week how many troops will start coming home next month.
But if that’s not enough undiluted political celebrity for our region, there is also news that William and Kate — yes, the William and Kate — will be arriving in Ottawa at the end of the month as part of their national tour of Canada. This from Global Regina.
The nine-day whirlwind that will take the newlyweds from the nation’s capital to its east coast to the north and back down the to the Rockies, will have markedly different tone than past visits – with more a focus on sports and rodeos than plaques and tree-planting.
Surely we can talk the Royal Couple into visiting the Adirondacks, right? Has anyone told them that Donnelly’s is open for the season?
Is Donnelly’s Republican or Northern?
They should visit the Adirondacks.
They seem like nice young people, but isn’t it time to end the Monarchy? We are in the 21st century after all….
Donnelly’s is Donnelly’s. If I’d known they were open I’d have come home from my camping trip that way. I thought they were still only open on weekends.
As for the monarchy, if they did away with it they’d lose big tourist $$$$. It really doesn’t have any significant political function anymore. It’s all about image. Maybe we should have a royal family in the ADKs.
We DO have a royal family in the Adirondacks — the NCPR family.
