Republican challenger Paul Maroun — an aide to state Senator Betty Little — is blasting Tupper Lake’s incumbent Mayor Mickey Desmarais for continuing to raise questions about the Adirondack Club and Resort project.
In an interview with the Adirondack Daily Enterprise’s Jessica Collier, Desmarais said that changes to the ACR project “really raises a red flag.”
In a statement, Maroun urged full backing for the project:
“We have to stop saying this project can’t continue because of this or that and start searching for ways to make it work in a progressive manner for all parties involved,” Maroun said.
With the Big Tupper resort as its pivot point and major issue, this is sure to be one of the hottest village elections the North Country has seen in a long time.

I think Desmarais is write to require the escrow account be in writing. Why leave it in doubt? I, once again, throw out the Maple Ridge Wind farm in Lewis County as an example of not having things in writing coming back to bite the tax payers of the community in their wallets.
Clapton, couldn’t agree more, get it in writing. You would think Maroun who touts himself as Littles’ “legal counsel” would be the one asking for committments from the developer in writing. The mayor of Tupper Lake is absolutely correct. If this developer was truly legit he wouldn’t have any problem signing instead of squealing so loudly. Sounds like the mayor of Tupper struck a nerve.
Clapton/Rich, It will be in writing through the Joint Planiing Board process.
Don Dew,
Are you saying it’s in writing because it’s been discussed by the Planning Board and is perhaps in the minutes from the meetings? If that’s the case board minutes are a bit thin as compared to an actual written agreement signed by the parties involved. Please elaborate as I’m curious as to what, exactly, you’re referring to. Thanks.
There will be permit conditions that the joint Planning Board will require. If an applicant does not agree to them they dont get a permit. It will be the Planning Boards role to get the documents in writing from the applicant prior to the issuance of a permit. Thanks.
Don Dew,
Thanks for the clarification…..
Clapton, The Planning Board in TL will do whatever the developer asks/demands them to do and they will comply without question. The Town attorney has been being paid for the past year and a half by the developer. There is an escrow account being funded by Foxman to pay the towns’ attorney to do his bidding. No conflict there I’m sure.
