President Barack Obama is under fire from all sides these days, blasted by liberals for being too milk-toasty and scorned by conservatives for being, well, too liberal.
But a new Siena poll issued today shows Mr. Obama beating “all Republicans by 25-37 points” in the Empire State.
The poll also has a lot of good news for New York Democrats, with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand looking strong and Governor Andrew Cuomo pulling a 72% approval rating — with 62% of Republicans giving him favorable marks.
(Not surprisingly, Gov. Cuomo’s numbers dip somewhat in union households, but even there 64% give him positive grades.)
Those polled are generally more positive about New York state’s prospects (42% say NYS is “on the right track”) when compared with their views of the nation as a whole (only 26% say the US is headed in the right direction).

Way too early to say how I’ll vote.
With regard to Obama, I wish there was a reasonable alternative candidate to consider. Sadly, the current crop of Republican contenders are simply not up to the task. A few are simply clueless and ignorant about the economy and foreign policy and the rest are merely advocating the same policies that got us in the mess we’re currently in. Unless a reasonable third party candidate emerges, I’ll have no choice but to cast my vote for Obama.
I suggest that you listen to the Sienna pollster on the Capital Press room here:

When they broke it down on a 4.0 grade scale. Obama received a 2.2 overall. Not exactly what I would describe as “running strong”. In fact most of us would be on probation and about to get kicked out of college!
The pollster characterizes it as “not good, but not bad” and here Brian calls it “running strong”. Brian why the varied opinions?
The pollster is the expert. I wasn’t expressing an opinion, just reacting to the numbers…with Obama beating GOP challengers by what appear to be landslide numbers.
But I’ll check out the Capital Pressroom conversation.

I agree that Obama hasn’t lived up to the hopes he engendered but where is the better choice? Certainly not in the opposition party. There are no third party contenders and based on past experience third party candidates are usually single issue candidates or just plain wacko. The real problem is that the country is firmly in the hands of the 1% monied elite. Even Obama is hamstrung by them and the Republicans are their shills.
Sort of what I’m suggesting, Jim. I want an alternative to Obama, but there just isn’t one I’m remotely comfortable voting for. Mitt Romney? Rick Perry? Newt Gingerich? I just can’t fathom either of these three sitting in the White House pushing for legislation that advocates for lower taxes, more war, and less regulation of Corporate America. They all want more military, more corporate controlled health care, cuts in benefit programs, etc. It’s really sad to see that this is the best the Republican party has to offer.
These numbers do show how out of touch with reality NYS is these days.
The president and the GOP both know that NYS will blindly follow any democrat on the ticket. You won’t see much campaigning in this neck of the woods.
Well, Paul, I agree that New York will vote Democratic, but I think that, as Clapton and Bullard indicate, that is because the Republicans are offering no one a sensible person could vote for. Are you ready to endorse any of the Republican candidates?
This is not a very surprising result (NYS supports democrats.) So does California. Texas will support whatever Republican ends up winning the nomination. Im not sure you can read anything into any of that.
