The Trap Dike, above Avalanche Lake, can be a tricky place to climb. So skiing the narrow defile seems, to low-grade intermediate shufflers like me — just plain wrong. But check it out.

That borders on insane.
Not insane at all. The top past doesn’t even look as steep as Cloud-spin on Whiteface. You wanna see insane search “extreme skiing” on you tube. It is too bad we don’t have some lift served skiing on some of these bigger mountains.

Paul, I assure you, there are very few people who would climb up that thing in winter conditions, let alone turn around and ski down it.
Have you ever been up it? Even in summer? It may not look steep to you in that video, but it is a much more serious ski than anything on Whiteface, including the slides.
And backcountry skiing opportunities is what makes these mountains a unique and special destination for many people.
