It looks like Republican Dan Stec may have a challenger after all, in the race to fill the Assembly seat being vacated by Teresa Sayward.
Stec, who serves currently as Queensbury town supervisor and chair of the Warren County board of supervisors, has been running unopposed in the 114th district. (CORRECTED: Stec is town supervisor of Queensbury, not Glens Falls.)
But Sue Montgomery-Corey, chair of the Democratic Party in Essex County, says that’s likely to change in the next few days
“I believe there’s going to be a contest,” she said. “I can’t say a whole lot more because our candidate hasn’t announced. But we have someone who is within a few days of announcing.”
One name that’s been floated as a possible Democratic candidate is Dennis Tarantino, an attorney based in Glens Falls.
Tarantino sought the Assembly seat once before, running unsuccessfully against Sayward in 2004. He couldn’t be reached for comment.

Queensbury already has an inferiority complex and to make things worse they are celebrating their 250th birthday this year. Glens Falls is a mere 104 years old having split off from Queensbury in 1908. So even though it is nearly impossible to find Queensbury on a map and spell check doesn’t believe it is a real place please remember that Dan is QBY town supervisor. Glens Falls has a mayor.
Darn… the Republican Politburo was trying so hard to avoid giving the voters a choice.
Stec is indeed town supervisor of Queensbury.
Just as clarification to Knuckle’s comment, the CITY of Glens Falls is 104 years old, having become a city in 1908. But GF was a village prior… having been incorporated as such in the 1830s. I was not aware of it having been part of the town of Queensbury prior to 1908, though this is obviously possible under NYS law. Wikipedia says this was the case but now I’ll have to check.
Though Queensbury does have a bit of an inferiority complex because although much smaller in population, Glens Falls is really the artistic and cultural heart of the area, with all of the museums, the library, the main entertainment arena. Glens Falls is a community of neighborhoods (Dennis Tarantino’s law office is around the block from where I live). Queensbury is a suburb. Not that I’m biased or anything. =)
Sorry, one more mistake, Carrie Woerner is in the 113th District. Hard to keep these changing districts straight.
Well, here is the kind of story you’ll never see about a third party candidate: “we’re going to have a candidate, but I can’t tell you who they are.”
What happen to the so-called standard that for a candidate to receive coverage by Brian Mann they have to be compelling and organized? I guess this story puts that nonsense to bed once and for all.

So it appears to be official, Dennis Tarantino will be facing Dan Stec in another classic Glens Falls vs Queensbury matchup.
