SLC Human Svcs Center to reopen Thurs after bomb scare
Update, 1:35: The Human Services Center is closed for the rest of the day today; it’ll reopen Thursday as usual.
***
We just received a press release from St. Lawrence County that the Human Services Center, on State Highway 310 in Canton, has been evacuated after a “suspicious looking bag” was found at the DMV. The bomb squad was called and were expected to arrive just about now. Police were on the scene. The full release is to the left (click to enlarge the image for a clearer view).
WWNY-TV is reporting now that a couple returned to claim the bag, which reportedly contained a Thermos bottle wrapped in tinfoil. The county has sent all the workers in the building home for the day, so it seems unlikely that the building will be open again today. But if that changes we’ll let you know.
Meanwhile, here’s a list of county offices that are closed, from North Country Now:
Public Health
Office for the Aging
DMV
One Stop Career Center
Community Services
Jefferson County Children’s Home
Veteran’s Office
Youth Bureau
DSS Employment Unit
DSS Adoption Unit
