Another cycling death in Ottawa

Earlier this week, 8 O’clock Hour listeners heard a cycling advocate’s concerns about sharing the road in Ottawa. More tragic news came yesterday. From the story in the Ottawa Citizen, it appears this cyclist simply rode out in front of — and, so, under — a city bus.
Ottawa is a relatively bike-friendly city, with bike lanes, and its inherently mostly wide-open layout.
Anyone who rides or drives the state highways and town byways of the rural North Country on this side of the border knows that is mostly not the case here. Narrow shoulders, precipitous ditches, nasty-looking cable guardrails, often jammed close to the lane of travel, and few designated bike lanes.
