Scozzafava worried about today’s poll?
This isn’t a great sign for the Scozzafava campaign. Spokesman Matt Burns is putting out a pre-emptive email about the Siena Institute poll expected out later this morning.
Burns lays out what appears to be an argument for why Republican Dede Scozzafava’s numbers might not look very good.
Here’s a taste of the email:
The Scozzafava campaign will issue a statement following the poll’s release, but please consider the following points in the interim:
- Since John McHugh’s confirmation, Dede has been under constant attack by her opponents and their special-interest backers;
- Dede’s opponents and their supporters have already aired hundreds-of-thousands of dollars of television advertisements;
- Dede has not yet aired her own television spots, but will in the coming days. To this point in the race, Dede has built her candidacy on retail politics, earned media and a strong grassroots network that continues to expand;
Scozzafava entered this race as the frontrunner, according to the polls and according to the inherent logic of a district that has been a GOP stronghold for as long as the GOP has existed.
This email suggests that her campaign is worried, despite a flurry of strong endorsements from Republicans in the region, and some unflattering press about her Conservative party opponent, Doug Hoffman.
BTW, where are Scozzafava’s TV spots? Stay tuned for Siena’s numbers around 10 am.
