Climate change at the top of the world
My brother, Matt Foley, has been spearheading a years-long exchange between people in the Adirondacks and people in the Altai Republic, on the southern edge of Siberia where Russia borders Kazakhstan, China and Mongolia. It’s called the Altai Assistance Project and does environmental work in the Altai Mountains, where preserving traditional values and culture in the face of modernization and climate change is a challenge.
Various people from there have come here to see how the Adirondack Park functions as a model for land use planning, wilderness protection and eco-tourism. And various people from here have gone there as well.
While we’re thinking about the climate change negotiations in Copenhagen, take a look at this Russian/English video, made by the U.N., about climate change there.
And do look at the other blog on our front page…from SLU students on the scene in Copenhagen.
