George Washington is now my favorite founding father

I just made the walk of shame to the Sherman Free Library in Port Henry, so I was absolutely proud to see that George Washington was a book-borrowing scofflaw like me.

This from the Associated Press.

If George Washington were alive today, he might face a hefty overdue library fine. New York City’s oldest library says one of its ledgers shows that the president has racked up 220 years’ worth of late fees on two books he borrowed, but never returned.

My book list was a little less ambitious — Washington’s overdue books include “Laws of Nations” and debates from the English Parliament — but we’re together in spirit.

Pretty sad that Hamilton, Burr, and Jay returned the book but Washington "forgot." Jackson? I would expect that sort of thing from Jackson. Jefferson donated his whole library to the United States. And we all know how careful Lincoln was with other peoples' books. This is a black mark that will go down on Washington's permanent record.
