See the GOP!
WSHU reporter Charles Lane sent a nice postcard from the Republican convention in Manhattan this week. We ran the audio version during the 8 O’clock Hour this morning. He also produced a video version.
So MUCH political news lately — especially here in the North County. Starting a year ago last January, we’ve reported on a series of special elections, beginning with the unpleasant race for state Senate between Darrell Aubertine and Will Barclay (remember when?). Then there were TWO special elections for Congress, one of which drew truly nasty national attention, drove Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava to give up politics after her current term ends — and sent a Democrat to Congress from a seat that had been in Republican Party hands since the Civil War era. Sorry for that really long sentence, but it sort of reflects the run-on-and-on feeling we got here in the newsroom.
And now it’s on to Nov. 2, 2010. Charles’ piece is a reminder that “politics” is more than just the candidates, campaign soundbites, and talk show rhetoric. There are other voices — yours, theirs, ours. Let’s keep listening.
