We’re trying to get a little bit better sense of who is using the In Box. I’d be grateful for any answers to the following three quick questions in the comment section below.
You don’t have to answer them all — I’m mostly interested in questions #1 & 2. If you spend a few minutes answering #3, that’s gravy.
1. Where are you (town and state)?
2. How often do you visit the In Box?
3. If the In Box is a regular read for you, why?
1) Glens Falls, NY
2) Daily
3) Because when it focuses on local and regional topics, it’s interesting and unique.
1. Keene Valley, NY
2. Average once a day
3. There is so much news available, but I usually don’t have time to do more than scan the headlines and read a few articles in depth. The In Box often pulls out an interesting issue and puts a spin on it or asks a question to make me think a little harder about my point of view on the subject.
1. Rochester, NY
2. At least once a day
3. Great breaking NY-23 coverage
1. West Stockholm, NY
2. It’s one of several blogs I’m subscribed to via Google Reader
1. Warren County, NY
2. Too much, usually a couple times a day on average.
3. I get a better feel for the way the news plays in the more northern and western part of the region. And because I think Brian M. has a good nose for news and an interesting, well reasoned take on current issues — even if he’s sometimes wrong. Also, it is like the local diner of the computer age where you can go sit down and shoot the bull with the regulars (crackpots) who are always at the counter. Then one day you realize you are one.
1. In Vermont for the school year, home is Saranac Lake.
2. A couple times a day because the In Box is updated when news becomes news.
3. See #2 above. Also because I’m an NCPR junkie, but don’t usually find time to stream while I’m in VT (too busy studying).
1. toronto, on
2. several times per day
3. because it’s the best nny blog i know!
1. st. albans, vt
2. subscribed via google reader, though I pop onto the website once every other day or so to read the comment sections.
3. Good pieces on the adk/no. country region. The community here has a nice mix of leftie and rightie, but we get along surprisingly well (take a look at some other sites’ comments sections sometimes, they can be real cesspools, regardless of ideology).
1. Russell, NY
2. I subscribe to The In Box in my Google Reader feed, to which I am very addicted. I usually read the posts within a few hours after they are published. I read much more than I comment.
3. I read the In Box because it talks about local issues and about politics. Politics is important, and I think it is honorable work. Even when I don’t agree with the posts or the commenters, I appreciate seeing political ideas hashed out on the local level.
KHL, that’s great – we are the crackpots at the counter!
1. Florence, Alabama
2. I visit once a day.
3. I’m here because of continuing interest in the North Country, home for my first 18 years. Though I sometimes disagree with Brian’s viewpoints, he does a great job with the stories.
1. Cambridge, UK
2. I read it via RSS
3. I’m from Canton, and this is one of the best ways (and one of the most regularly updated RSS feeds…) to keep up with local news including election news, Adirondack Park news, and NCPR news.
This is already fascinating for me, because I have absolutely NO IDEA what Google Reader even is…so, I’ll be checking that out.
–Brian, NCPR
Colton
Reading and posting again after a 6 month hiatus. I access it directly through ncpr.org
I read the INB0X because of its regional focus. Being local will be everything in the oncoming age of scarce or expensive fossil fuels. More immediately, is the political news.
1. Lyons Falls, NY
2. Daily
3. My wife and I both attended North Country colleges (Clarkson, St. Lawrence) and both our kids graduated from the same colleges.
The In Box is a good way to keep up with Adk and North Country issues.
I’m also somewhat of a political junkie, and I enjoy reading Brian’s take on things.
Potsdam
Daily
I enjoy the open expression of differing views.
Moira, NY
Visit it up to 3 times a day, depends on the day.
I’m the person who sits in the booth against the window and listens. Don’t have the guts to comment much, now that our names are required. sometimes I’m sick of politics, and bow out for a few days, but i like to hear what’s going on.
North Gouverneur/Black Lake area
Sometimes several times a day.
Because this is one of the very few places on line where stupid people do not rule the roost. I may not agree with you guys, but at least you’re not the mouth breathing morons who seem to inhabit every other website around. I also come here because I was a hardcore NPR/NCPR news junkie for years. This is my chance to ramble on endlessly and incoherently about why I think Brian, David, Jonathan or whomever is right or wrong about something.
What Brian said in the first comment, except for the Glens Falls part. (But I’m in NNY)
And what Bret said in answer to No. 3.
Canton NY
Daily
I like to hear North Country voices on local political issues and national issues that are directly important to the North Country.
Lake George basin, NY (Live on the north end, work on the south end)
2-3 daily
Best regional coverage and commentary on North Country news & events.
1. Brasher Falls, NY
2. Daily although I don’t always comment.
3. I agree with Bret on this question. Politico and yahoo have some very interesting people commenting. Most just try to stir things up with the boring parroted talking points. Copy and paste.
Indian Lake
Most days, usually twice.
I come here because it’s fun and I enjoy making comments that are sometimes a bit off the wall to see what sticks and see what the reactions might be.
It can be difficult to know when I’m serious and when I am not – as any of my family and friends would agree.
Dekalb Jct, NY
At least daily
Good reporting and commenting on items of local and national interset from Brian, and interesting commentary from the readers. As Brett, says, we don’t always agree, but we are generally civil and tend to debate rather than argue.
Like to share a couple beers with a few of you.
Upstate New York; Daily; I like to be informed of significant North Country issues.
Lisbon NY
Couple times daily
Unique source to see what local folks on the ground
are thinking. Brian M posts some excellent topics
Paul Smith’s Santa Clara area for a few mos., Madison Wisc. for a few mos., and finally Florida for a while.
I read this when I’m connected to the world. Some thoughts seem to long for a day gone bye as if they canbe wished(demanded) back again
Canton NY area
Daily
I have found unique information on this blog and it really is informative for me.
1. Saranac Lake (don’t need to add state – is there any other?)
2. Twice daily, more often if hooked on a thread
3. Brian Mann’s posts are always well done even when he’s wrong which IMHO isn’t often. Enjoy the variety of viewpoints. Helps me stay in touch with and be challenged by others’ thinking.
