Mountain Lake PBS news director Thom Hallock says a debate taping has been planned for Plattsburgh “for more than a week,” between Democratic Rep. Bill Owens and Republican challenger Matt Doheny.
But yesterday, Doheny’s camp phoned and pulled out, citing scheduling conflicts, according to Hallock.
So the October 27th event is off and currently there are no debates planned for the Plattsburgh area.
But Hallock says he’s working today to try to find a new date and time when the studio debate can be taped. NCPR was planning to air the debate in its entirety.
We’ll keep you informed as we hear more.
As Martha Foley pointed out in a blog post last week, this has been a terrible year for debates, with candidates from both parties balking at the idea answering questions in real time from journalists and voters.

Anybody that votes for doheny is voting for the crooks on wall street. Why do you suppose the Republican party indorsed this fool instead of Hoffman, because dohoney is in bed with the wall street crooks. Hoffman still could beat Owens, after all, he only lost by less than 600 votes. If Conns would have indorsed DEDE we would have a Republican in the 23rd.That cared about the people that she represented.Has far has dohoney, all he will do is listen to big business and the smucks on wall street, that almost destroyed our great country. What does he know what the voter in the 23rd. Needs are.He spent the last decade sucking up to wall street, Why do you think he pulled out of the debate, because he has no idea what we need or want.He only know what wall street needs are.
Terry…you are right on!!! Doheny is as crooked as they come. He outsourced hundreds of jobs when he was at Adelphi Communications and is getting contributions from abroad from the very same companies!!!!
Owens is the ONLY candidate to rule in Congress for NY23!
Vote Owens! VOTE!!!!
