Another North Country school closes in Saranac Lake

Chris Knight is reporting in today’s Adirondack Daily Enterprise that the Saranac Lake Central School District has voted to close Lake Colby School.

The school housed the district’s kindergarten program and was beloved by parents for being a place where faculty focused on introducing children to public school.  (My own son Nicholas started there…)

This from Superintendent Gerald Goldman:

“I also think the economic climate is much different now,” Goldman said. “I think people realize that our enrollment’s going down, and it’s a marginal building. We love the school and we all have some fond memories of the place, but in truth, this was not that hard of a decision.”
