Little airports threatened, but not here

We reported this morning that  regional airports in the North Country were caught up in the congressional deadlock over funding the Essential Air Service.

It now looks like we were wrong. While Massena, Watertown, Ogdensburg, Lake Clear and Plattsburgh airports all receive EAS subsidies, the only New York State regional airport on the list now singled out for loss of the federal money is Jamestown. That’s according to NPR this morning.

Of course, all the little North Country airports will suffer if overall EAS funding is delayed or cut altogether, but the standoff between Republicans and Democrats that’s led to the partial shutdown of the FAA  involves a limited number of the little airports across the country.

We’ll have more during All before 5 today.
