McHugh and Guantanamo Bay…
The political journal Roll Call is reporting that two Republican Senators have placed a hold on Rep. John McHugh’s confirmation as Army Secretary.
That website is subscription only. Here’s the treatment on the conservative Weekly Standard’s blog.
Roll Call reports that “McHugh is the subject of a hold by Kansas GOP Sens. Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts, who want assurances from Obama that detainees at the Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, prison will not be transferred to Fort Leavenworth in Kansas.”
Unless Obama makes a recess appointment, McHugh won’t be able to assume his new post until the Senate returns September 8. So McHugh may stick around just long enough to cast his final (and a lone Republican) vote in favor of Obamacare and expose his opportunism for all the world to see.
